(With apologies to Yeats)

THAT love’s story be told
And Alexandria’s light endure,
A Queen prepares to make her Marc
Nonchalant in window light.
What resolve will hold him?
Or courage meet her gaze?
Smiling Venus, plants rose and myrtle,
And loosens a queenly gown.
Like a long-legged fly upon the stream
Her mind moves upon silence.
